MCI (Maximum CHlorophyll Index)
Maximum Chlorophyll Index (MCI) measures high concentrations of chlorophyll in dense vegetation or algae populations by analyzing the reflectance of red and near-infrared light. It is particularly effective in detecting chlorophyll-rich areas such as algal blooms and highly productive vegetation zones. MCI values range from 0 to +10, where higher values indicate abundant chlorophyll and high photosynthetic activity, while lower values suggest low chlorophyll concentration or sparse vegetation. It is useful for monitoring algal blooms, assessing water quality, and studying plant productivity.
