The Oil Spill Index (OSI) is a remote sensing index used to detect and assess the extent of oil spills or hydrocarbon pollution in aquatic environments, particularly in the context of satellite imagery analysis. It is designed to identify areas of water contaminated by oil or other hydrocarbons, which can have significant environmental and ecological impacts. The OSI is primarily based on the analysis of satellite images in the visible and near-infrared spectral ranges.
