Cyanobacteria Index (CI) is used to detect and monitor cyanobacterial blooms in water bodies by analyzing the reflectance of specific blue and green wavelengths sensitive to cyanobacteria pigments. It helps distinguish cyanobacteria from other algae and aquatic vegetation. CI values range from -1 to +1, where higher values indicate the presence of cyanobacteria, which could signify harmful algal blooms or water pollution, while lower values indicate clear water with minimal cyanobacterial content.
